Delta Air Lines launches first direct flights between Atlanta and Riyadh on October 23, marking the first non-stop American flights to Saudi Arabia in decades.

Delta Air Lines has set October 23 as the launch date for its first direct flights between Atlanta and Riyadh, marking the first time in decades that an American airline operates non-stop flights to the Kingdom. This move is part of Delta's expansion into the Middle East despite current regional tensions, according to the company's statement and specialized aviation reports.

The airline announced in a media center statement that the new route between Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh will begin with daily flights from October 23 to 30, before settling into a schedule of three flights per week. The flights will be operated with an Airbus A350-900, offering four travel classes including Delta One for business and premium economy, with halal meals among the services provided.

The route, which takes approximately 13 hours and covers a distance of over 7,000 miles, is one of the longest in Delta's network. It allows travelers from Riyadh to reach over 150 American cities with just one stop through the airline's main hub in Atlanta.

Delta Air Lines President Peter Carter stated, "Our new non-stop service to Riyadh is a significant step in connecting our customers to one of the world's most important and fastest-growing regions."

Responding to a Growing Market

Delta's entry into the direct flight market between the two countries — for the first time in its history — is a response to the growing business and tourism traffic between the United States and the Kingdom. This aligns with Saudi Arabia's strategy to develop its aviation sector and expand international air connectivity as part of Vision 2030. The American carrier had previously announced its intention to build a partnership with 'Riyadh Air' to strengthen its presence in the region.

Delta acknowledged that bookings for the new route were "lower than expected" in its initial stages, prompting the airline to launch promotional offers, discounts on fares, and mileage exchanges across all classes, according to specialized aviation industry reports.

It's worth noting that Saudi Arabian Airlines has operated direct flights between the Kingdom and several American cities for decades. Delta's new route marks the first time an American carrier has entered this market in a long time, indicating Riyadh's transformation into a central destination on the international aviation map.
