Jazan Emir Reviews New Jazan Airport Project with 94% Completion, Aiming for Trial Operation in 2026

The Emir of the Jazan Region and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Strategic Office for Regional Development, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz, reviewed the progress of the new Jazan International Airport project during a meeting dedicated to monitoring project updates and assessing completion rates and operational plans associated with its inauguration.

The meeting, held via video conference, was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics for Roads Affairs, Engineer Badr Al-Dalami, Deputy Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Ihab Al-Hashani, and CEO of the Development Authorities and Strategic Offices Support Center, Engineer Yasser Al-Dawood, along with other relevant entities.

The Emir of Jazan emphasized that the new Jazan International Airport project is a vital cornerstone for serving the region's residents and enhancing their quality of life, as it provides a qualitative leap in the transportation and logistics services system, in addition to its direct support for economic and tourism development.

He stressed the importance of accelerating the pace of work and completing the project according to the approved timeline, emphasizing the need for integrated efforts among the relevant entities to meet the aspirations of the wise leadership and enhance community benefits from this vital project.

His Highness explained that the project is receiving direct follow-up and attention from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, given its strategic importance in supporting comprehensive development, enhancing air connectivity, and improving infrastructure and logistics services in the region.

During the meeting, His Highness was briefed on the progress of the work, the completion rate, the progress made in addressing challenges, and the operational plan, as well as the decisions and recommendations related to completing the project and arrangements for its inauguration.

The presentation during the meeting highlighted that the project has made significant progress, achieving a completion rate of approximately 94%, supported by direct follow-up from the Emir of the region, integration among the concerned entities, and the role of the Strategic Office for Jazan Region Development in leading efforts to correct the course and address challenges.

Key achievements included the completion of infrastructure projects related to the airport, such as connecting the electricity supply and operating the power station, providing water services, progress in road works and connectivity, installing meteorological systems, and addressing several operational and technical challenges.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Emir of Jazan directed the continued diligent follow-up on the implementation of decisions and recommendations, and the holding of periodic meetings to monitor progress, paving the way for the trial operation of the airport in 2026 and completing its readiness for inauguration according to the approved plan.

The new Jazan International Airport project is part of the developmental projects supporting the achievement of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives, by enhancing air connectivity, supporting economic and tourism movement, and improving infrastructure and logistics services in the region.

The new airport is considered one of the major strategic projects, as it is established on an area estimated at about 50 million square meters, comprising 44 facilities and buildings, with a capacity of up to 5.4 million passengers annually, contributing to enhancing service quality and meeting the needs of the region's residents and visitors.
