Saudi Aramco Starts Production at Jafurah and Tanajib Gas Facilities

Saudi Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies, has reported significant progress in its ambitious plan to expand gas production, with the start of output at the Jafurah field and the launch of operations at the Tanajib gas plant.

The company aims to increase its sales gas production capacity by about 80 percent by 2030 compared with 2021 levels, raising total output of gas and associated liquids to nearly 6 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. This expansion is expected to generate additional operating cash flows of between $12 billion and $15 billion in 2030, subject to future demand for sales gas and liquids prices.

Saudi Aramco President and CEO Amin H. Nasser said the start of production at Jafurah and the commencement of operations at Tanajib represent major milestones for the company and for the future of energy in the Kingdom.

“We are proud to begin production at the Jafurah field and start operations at the Tanajib gas plant. These are major achievements for Saudi Aramco and for the future of energy in the Kingdom. Our ambitious gas program is expected, God willing, to become one of our main sources of profitability,” Nasser said.

He added that these large-scale projects will help meet growing domestic demand for gas, supporting manufacturing and development across several key sectors, while also producing significant volumes of high-value liquids. Nasser stressed that these achievements, made possible by the support of the Ministry of Energy’s leadership and the dedication and innovation of Aramco’s workforce, underline the central role of gas in the company’s growth strategy.

Nasser expressed deep gratitude for the support, confidence and attention the company receives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He said this backing has been crucial to the company’s outstanding projects and achievements that contribute to Saudi Vision 2030.

The gas produced from Jafurah is expected to support the Kingdom’s growth targets in key sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, heavy industries and petrochemicals. This is anticipated to provide a strong boost to the Saudi economy and reinforce the Kingdom’s position among the world’s top 10 gas producers.

Saudi Aramco began producing the first unconventional shale gas from Jafurah in December 2025. Advanced technology has played a pivotal role in unlocking the field’s potential and establishing it as a global benchmark for unconventional gas development. Since its launch, the project has leveraged technology to help reduce drilling and stimulation costs and enhance well productivity, strengthening its already robust economic outlook.

The Jafurah field covers an area of 17,000 square kilometers and is estimated to contain 229 trillion standard cubic feet of raw gas and around 75 billion barrels of liquids. The project targets production of 2 billion standard cubic feet per day of sales gas, 420 million standard cubic feet per day of ethane, and about 630,000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids and condensates by 2030.

The Tanajib gas plant is a cornerstone of Saudi Aramco’s strategy to increase gas processing capacity and diversify its energy product portfolio, helping to support long-term economic growth. Operations at the plant began in December 2025, and its processing capacity for raw gas is expected to reach 2.6 billion standard cubic feet per day in 2026.

The start of operations at Tanajib coincided with the start of production from the expansion and development program of the Marjan field. The plant features advanced digital integration, enhanced operational efficiency, strong capability in executing complex projects and optimal use of resources. It processes raw gas associated with crude oil production from the offshore Marjan and Zuluf fields.

Saudi Aramco’s gas expansion is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities, generating substantial added value and further consolidating the company’s position as a reliable global energy supplier.

In addition to helping meet rising demand for natural gas and strengthening supplies to local industries, the company’s gas expansion strategy supports efforts to achieve an optimal energy mix for domestic power generation. It backs Saudi Arabia’s liquid fuel displacement program, which is expected, God willing, to have a positive impact on the environment, support the Kingdom’s ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2060, enhance energy security and contribute to building a more diversified national economy.
