Royal Commission in Riyadh Begins Development of Taif Road to Accommodate 200,000 Vehicles Daily

The Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh has commenced the construction of two bridges as part of the Taif Road development project, aimed at enhancing the main intersections with Najd and Asir roads. This will strengthen the connection between the city of Qiddiya to the west and the ring road and Jeddah road to the east, contributing to improved traffic flow and reduced travel times on one of the capital's vital corridors.

The project spans 15 kilometers and includes the construction of the bridges and the development of the main road lanes, increasing the corridor's capacity to approximately 200,000 vehicles daily and enhancing the connectivity between Riyadh's vital corridors.

The project involves the development of the Najd and Asir intersection through an integrated system of bridges and lanes, which will improve traffic flow, reduce traffic conflict points, and enhance mobility efficiency on this vital corridor.

Coinciding with the commencement of fieldwork on Monday, June 8, 2026, the commission activated a comprehensive traffic management plan in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the continued smooth flow of traffic and the safety of road users. Additionally, digital systems and applications have been updated to provide regular updates on the project's progress and related traffic diversions.

The project is part of the program to develop the ring and main road corridors in Riyadh, which includes the implementation and development of more than 500 kilometers of road network. This involves enhancing the efficiency of existing corridors, creating new roads, and strengthening their connectivity, supporting the construction of an integrated and sustainable urban transport system and achieving quality of life targets in the capital.
