Asir region gears up for over 3 million visitors in summer 2026, with hotel occupancy expected to exceed 90% and early 'Fully Booked' signs in Abha.

The Asir region is preparing to welcome over 3 million visitors during the summer season of 2026, amidst strong indicators of increased demand for accommodation and travel. 'Fully Booked' signs have appeared early in several hotels and resorts in the city of Abha, with rising bookings coming from various parts of the Kingdom.

Asir is relying on a growing tourism infrastructure that includes more than 14,000 hotel and tourist units, alongside new investments exceeding 444 million riyals this year, as part of efforts to establish the region as one of the Kingdom's top tourist destinations.

This momentum coincides with the launch of the Asir 2026 season under the slogan 'The Sky is Your Land', offering more than 100 tourist experiences available for booking, ranging from cultural, artistic, and entertainment events to mountain adventures and environmental experiences, catering to the interests of various visitor segments.

High Occupancy and Early Bookings

Hotels in Abha and Khamis Mushait have recorded high booking rates in recent weeks, especially with the peak summer vacation starting from June 25. Many Saudis prefer to spend their holidays within the Kingdom, taking advantage of the moderate climate of Asir's highlands compared to many other destinations.

Hotel industry workers expect occupancy rates during peak periods to exceed 90%, with some tourist establishments already registering full bookings during weekends. This has prompted many travelers to book early to ensure suitable accommodation options are available.

100 Tourist Experiences

The season sees the return of several renowned events after being developed and refurbished, most notably the reopening of Talal Maddah Theater, the return of the Tuesday Market, and the launch of new events like 'Seyyer' for adventures and nature trips, the 'Husak' Adventure Center, the 'Voice of Abha' Festival, and the 2026 World Cup Fan Zone.

Events are spread across various provinces of the region, benefiting from Asir's natural and cultural diversity, which combines towering mountains, heritage villages, environmental trails, forests, and natural parks.

Spending Exceeds 1,200 Riyals per Visitor

Estimates from the Asir Development Authority indicate that the average visitor spending during the current season will reach approximately 1,287 riyals, boosting the tourism sector's contribution to the local economy and supporting thousands of seasonal job opportunities provided by the season.

The Asir season also offers more than 3,000 seasonal job opportunities for young men and women in hospitality, tourism, events, and support services.

The Top Summer Destination

Experts in the travel and tourism sector believe that Asir has become the top summer destination for Saudis in recent years, thanks to its moderate climate, diverse activities, and developed tourism and hotel infrastructure.

With the continued influx of visitors and increased demand for flights and hotels, the region seems on track to achieve another exceptional season, confirming the success of tourism development plans and transforming Asir into a global destination year-round, not just during the summer season.

Current indicators suggest that the summer of 2026 could be one of the strongest tourist seasons in the region's history, with expectations of surpassing the 3 million visitor mark for the first time, amid intensive preparations by government agencies and the private sector to accommodate this large influx of tourists.
