WHO Calls for Urgent Measures to Save Deteriorating Health Situation in Gaza

The World Health Organization has warned of a severe deterioration in the health situation in the Gaza Strip, amidst widespread infrastructure destruction and the devastation of over 1,800 medical facilities. Despite the ongoing ceasefire, living conditions remain harsh, with reconstruction needs estimated at 10 billion USD, while the health sector's losses are approximated at 1.4 billion USD.
Renehilde Van Duweldt, the organization's representative in the Palestinian territories, highlighted that most of Gaza's population remains displaced, living in tents among the rubble, heavily reliant on humanitarian aid with worsening health conditions.
She called for urgent actions, including the protection of healthcare workers, ensuring unrestricted access to essential medicines and supplies, repairing vital infrastructure such as water and sanitation, and debris removal. Additionally, she emphasized the need to create a safe environment and lift restrictions to expand the humanitarian response, reaffirming the organization's commitment to continue supporting Gaza.
